About the Artist

My Artistic Journey

I was fortunate to have been taught that art is important. My parents gave me permission to be an artist and to value what I could contribute in this way. Earning a BA in Fine Art and an MFA in Costume Design led me to a lengthy career as an artist and a designer beginning in 1996. Along the way I have exhibited and sold my own work in galleries and through commisions. My current paintings are inspired by my family, our recent experiences and the everyday life around us in the city of Madrid and it's surrounding community. The beautiful wooden floating frames are custom made by my husband.

I am currently living and painting in Madrid. I have an academic background in ceramic sculpture and costume design and my professional career was with the Walt Disney Company. I am currently working on a collection of paintings inspired by both adventures and daily life. I am painting with acrylics and also experimenting a bit with oils at the moment. These paintings are done on either wood panels or canvas. I sketch the scene and focus mostly on the large shapes then I give myself total freedom with color. I am using a lot of bright colors right now. I feel like they are a force that defies negativity and somehow that makes me feel stronger. I hope to create art that brings positivity into the world. These paintings are primarily portrayals of ordinary places, objects, modes of transportation ,pets, skylines and backstreets but they don't seem ordinary to me.
