About the Artist

My Artistic Journey

I was fortunate to have been taught that art is important. My parents gave me permission to be an artist and to value what I could contribute in this way. Earning a BA in Fine Art and an MFA in Costume Design led me to a lengthy career as a corporate artist and a designer beginning in 1996. Along the way I have exhibited some of my work in galleries and through commisions. Most of my paintings this year are inspired by my family, our recent experiences and the everyday life in the community of Madrid. The beautiful wooden floating frames are custom made by my husband.

I am currently living and painting in Madrid. I have an academic background in ceramic sculpture and costume design and my professional career was as a commercial artist with the Walt Disney Company. I am currently working on a collection of paintings inspired by both adventures and daily life. I am painting with acrylics and oils at the moment. These paintings are done on either wood panels, board or canvas. I sketch the scene and begin painting by focusing primarily on the large shapes then I give myself total freedom with color. I am using a lot of bright colors right now. I feel that colors are a force and provide an energy that defies negativity. My hope is to create art that brings out the positivity in the world. As you may have noticed these paintings are primarily portrayals of ordinary places, objects, transportation, pets, skylines and backstreets. But, something special about these images caught my attention. I have tried to portray with paint the feeling around them that tells a story that is not ordinary.
