Julia M Chiaro

The truth is, once I begin painting I do not want to stop. Time disappears. When I am painting I am happy. I like to walk and I keep my eyes open. When something catches my eye, I take a picture or I make a quick sketch. Later I try to recreate what I saw and what that moment felt like and why I noticed that moment at all. I try to focus on the major shapes and blocks of color when I begin painting. I try to not be afraid of making mistakes.

Artistic Journey

I was fortunate because I was taught that art is important. My parents introduced me to creativity as a child and I had their permission to be an artist even when I was too tired from all the things I felt were more important. Earning a BA in Fine Art and an MFA in Costume Design led me to a lengthy career as an artist and designer with Walt Disney Costuming beginning in 1996. I have exhibited and sold my own work in cities and small towns in the US. My current paintings are inspired by the vibrant city of Madrid, my family and the everyday life around us.
