Julia M Chiaro

I am currently living and painting in Madrid. I have an academic background in ceramic sculpture and costume design and my professional career was with the Walt Disney Company. I am currently working on a collection of paintings inspired by the adventures and the daily routines of life with my family. I am painting with both acrylics and oils at the moment and experimenting a bit with each. These paintings are done on either wood panels, board or canvas. I sketch the scene, focusing mostly on the large shapes, but I experiment with the colors. I am using a lot of bright, strong colors right now. I feel the colors defy negativity. These paintings are mostly portrayals of ordinary places, objects, modes of transportation ,pets, skylines and backstreets but when I saw them they didn’t look ordinary to me. They looked perfect for a painting! All materials used in the painting , printing and framing of this artwork was purchased and sourced in Madrid. A portion of sales of these paintings will be donated to local foundations.

Artistic Journey

I was fortunate to have been taught that art is important. My parents gave me permission to be an artist and to value what I have to contribute to others in this way. Earning a BA in Fine Art and an MFA in Costume Design led to my professional career as a corporate artist and designer beginning in 1996. Along the way I have exhibited and sold some of my own works in galleries and through commisions. My current paintings are inspired by some of what I have seen around me this year, 2025. Some adventures we have had as a family and also many pieces of everyday life in the community of Madrid. The beautiful wooden floating frames are custom made by my husband for each painting.
